In this assignment I select an article from the Health Science literature that is written by Paul Ciechanowski and colleagues titled “Relationship Styles and Mortality in Patients with Diabetes”. In this article data were collected and analyzed and I discussed whether the author discussed the theoretical framework upon which the research questions were formulated. I also answered whether the research questions were theory-based or instead derived from a specific problem statement. I also discussed if the researcher explicitly state assumptions that were drawn from the theoretical framework. To what extent was the methodology linked to a theoretical framework was also addressed. Finally, I discussed if the authors state whether their conclusions were consistent with existing theory and whether the authors discuss the development of new theory.

- Introduction to Theory and Health Behavior Models and Theories
- Did the author(s) discuss the theoretical framework upon which the research questions were formulated? Were the research questions theory-based? Or, were the research questions instead derived from a specific problem statement?
- Did the researcher explicitly state assumptions that were drawn from the theoretical framework?
- To what extent was the methodology linked to a theoretical framework?
Zielsetzung und Themenschwerpunkte (Objectives and Key Themes)
This assignment aims to analyze a research article titled “Relationship Styles and Mortality in Patients with Diabetes” by Paul Ciechanowski and colleagues. The focus is on evaluating whether the research questions were formulated based on a theoretical framework, whether assumptions were explicitly stated, and how the methodology was linked to the theoretical framework.
- Relationship between social support and mortality in individuals with chronic illness
- Attachment theory as a framework for understanding individual differences in seeking support
- Influence of attachment styles on mortality in patients with diabetes
- Connection between research methodology and theoretical framework
- Consistency of research findings with existing theory
Zusammenfassung der Kapitel (Chapter Summaries)
- The author's discussion of the theoretical framework and how it informed the research questions is examined. The article cites prior research linking reduced social support to increased mortality in individuals with chronic illness. This study seeks to investigate the connection between attachment style and mortality in patients with diabetes.
- This section analyzes whether the research questions were theory-based or stemmed from a specific problem statement. The article draws from existing research on attachment theory and seeks to build upon prior findings. The research questions are deemed theory-based due to their connection to existing knowledge and their potential to generate new insights.
- This section explores whether the authors explicitly stated assumptions drawn from the theoretical framework. The article highlights attachment theory as a model for understanding individual differences in seeking support. It explains that attachment styles, shaped by past experiences, influence an individual's comfort and ability to reach out to others, particularly during times of distress.
- The link between the methodology and the theoretical framework is assessed. The study utilizes a longitudinal design and collects data from a diverse population with diabetes. The methodology is closely tied to the theoretical framework, as the research aims to investigate the relationship between attachment style and mortality, building upon existing research and findings.
