First, the terms of knowledge sharing and withholding as well as structural competition will be introduced and defined. In the main part, an introduction to Prospect Theory will be given before elaborating on motives of engaging in knowledge management behaviors, such as expected reciprocal behavior described by Cabrera et al. (2006, p. 260). These motives will be used to analyze the effects of competition on the choice and strength of the two different knowledge management behaviors with respect to Prospect Theory. After summarizing the main findings, theoretical and managerial implications as well as limitations of the paper and recommendations for future research will be discussed.
