The popularity of the transformational leadership model has continued to grow in recent years. Northouse (2021) describes transformational leadership as a model that transforms and changes individuals. Thus, a transformational leader can inspire people to find ways to change and grow. This type of leadership entails an assessment of the subjects’ motives, solutions to their needs, and an appreciation for them to realize success.
A notable figure that embodies the qualities of a transformational leader in my life is my current student leader in college. This person has helped find solutions to conflicts at school and encouraged fellow students to improve and innovate. In an institutional setting that traditionally expects strict compliance, my student leader is often at the forefront in pushing for creativity, empowering fellow learners, inspiring change, listening to divergent opinions, and collaborating with every stakeholder.

Leader and the Transformational Leadership Four Factors
Transformational leadership seeks to empower others and inspire change. Northouse (2021) notes that transformational leaders utilize four factors to encourage participation and instill a sense of ownership in their teams. These four factors, also known as the four “I’s” of transformational leadership, include intellectual stimulation, individual consideration, inspirational motivation, and idealized influence. Notably, these four “I’s” are central to transformational leadership since they help distinguish it from other related leadership philosophies.
Intellectual Stimulation
Transformational leaders stimulate their followers’ intellectual capacity. Craig (2019) asserts that transformational leaders can challenge people’s preconceived notions. He does not rely on the most robust vocabulary to express himself but has the oratory skills that inspire people to ask old questions in new ways. My college student leader fosters an environment that encourages conversations, creativity, and diverse opinions and perspectives. He also allows a greater level of autonomy, enabling his followers to identify more effective ways of executing their tasks.
