The research work has as objective to investigate the effect of "manpower planning on the evolution of an organisation, the case of NFC Bank Head Office Yaounde 1 Cameroon". The main research question is "to analyse the extent to which manpower planning impact an organisation in its evolution." And we had as specific questions the following "how do recruitment, selection and appraisal influences the growth of an organisation." "Do training and development have an impact on the employees of an organisation?" The reason for this research was due to the fact that during my internship period at NFC Bank S.A. I observed several problems such as employee turnover, jobs that needed a higher number of employees and some that needed a lesser number of employees, some employees where complaining about their working timetable just to name a few. All these urged me to carry out a research on the Manpower planning of NFC Bank S.A. lt integrates quantitative and qualitative methods. Data was collected from primary and secondary sources, the simple random sampling method was use on a sample population of 60 workers and the sample size was 50 workers. Data collected are presented in tables and analysed using percentages, frequency tables and charts.

Excerpt from the book
1.1.1 Historical Background of Manpower Planning:
From earliest recorded times, groups of people have been organised to work together towards planned goals. Consider the manpower planning and the skill management required by the ancient Chinese to build the Great Wall of China, Egyptians to build their Pyramids, the management skills of the Mesopotamians to irrigate the land and wall the cities. All these manual constructions required large amount of human efforts, manpower planning and skills management. It was only because of the efficiency and effectiveness of people that these feats were achieved. The importance of human cannot be undermined. Manpower planning has been criticized as speculative or over-mathematical. Nevertheless, proponents argue that rather than attempting to predict the future, the value lies in challenging assumptions and stimulating thinking. Planning of manpower had been recognized as an undeniable process in organisations. Human resource planning (Manpower planning) is an evolving process as it is a part of Human Resource Management. It is an evolution from the scientific management developed in the late 19th century by Frederick Winslow Taylor and the System theory by NIKLAS LUHMANN. The concept of HRP was drawn upon from these classical approaches, thus the core consideration while developing a HRP is theory-based as the guidelines and the framework are set. These approaches were sufficient and commonly used in the late 19th and early 20th century as the majority of the workforce was already engaged in productions and factories. And yet the contemporary HRP is facing a lot of challenges and instabilities such as demographic and political changes intense international competitions, expensive and rapid development of technologies, and rising demand of customers. Because of all these change and development, they have shifted the nature of human resource planning (Manpower planning) from being just plain predictions to include personal assumptions and thoughts in order to prolong the “life” of HRP.
