The objective of this paper is to find solutions or strategies for the classroom instructor that will enhance students’ skills in oral practice, and will fulfill the curriculum objectives outlined to the faculty staff by the target school.
The target school serves its local community which consists of mostly Hispanics. The semester for each level of study, lasts for one month. Within this month of instruction, the students have to complete and improve their listening and oral skills through the use of grammar, listening, and oral exercises which are supplemented by audio and visual aids, but directly instructed and guided by a classroom teacher.
The problems that the target school faces lies in the discrepancies found on the test results of the exit examination compared to classroom performance results. The target group passes the examination given at the school with average marks, but due to the beliefs of the administration, those scores can be considered close to failing.

Chapter Summaries
Chapter I: Background
This chapter provides an overview of the target school, its history, student demographics, and instructional methods. It highlights the school's focus on providing English language instruction to a diverse student population, primarily adults from Latin America and Europe. The chapter also discusses the challenges posed by student transience and varying levels of English proficiency.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can adult English learners improve their oral skills?
Strategies include increasing classroom interaction, using targeted oral exercises, and supplementing lessons with audio-visual aids to build confidence and fluency.
What is the "discrepancy statement" in this research?
It refers to the gap found between students' strong performance during classroom activities and their lower-than-expected scores on standardized exit examinations.
How does student transience affect language learning?
Frequent changes in the student population (transience) make it difficult to maintain a consistent learning pace and achieve long-term curriculum goals within a one-month semester.
What role do teachers play in private language schools?
Teachers act as facilitators who must adapt curriculum objectives to the specific needs of diverse adult learners, often focusing on practical communication skills.
Why are exit examinations a challenge for these students?
Test anxiety, different testing formats compared to classroom practice, and varying levels of background education can cause students to underperform on formal assessments.
