This book on drip and sprinkler irrigation system design evaluates the latest available books and research in the field and presents them in a concise and clear manner that can be useful as a reference for graduate and undergraduate students, including practicing engineers. The reference book contains up-to-date data and information on the design of drip and sprinkler irrigation systems.
The book is divided into two parts; the first part deals with the basics of sprinkler irrigation and goes deeper into the design part by mostly using the Keller and Bliesner book, and the second part details all about drip irrigation system right from the components and types to the design detail.
Agriculture originated when the communities began adding food growing to hunting and foraging, in the Neolithic era, 8,000 – 10,000 years ago. In the beginning of this process agriculture was based on rainfall and uncontrolled river floods. Irrigation as an activity, started to develop in places where natural water resources, mainly rains, were insufficient to support the current population. This, in fact, was one of the main reasons for the appearance of central authorities involved in water production and control.

Chapter Summaries
Chapter 1: Sprinkler Irrigation Systems This chapter introduces sprinkler irrigation, detailing its components, various sprinkler types, and performance characteristics such as discharge, throw distance, and application rate. It also explores hydraulic principles relevant to sprinkler design, including head loss calculations and the soil-water-plant relationship. System layout and the design of laterals and main delivery systems are also covered.
Chapter 2: Drip Irrigation Systems This chapter focuses on drip irrigation, covering different system types, advantages, limitations, and suitability for various crops and soil conditions. It details system components, including filtration systems, and discusses fertigation techniques. The design of trickle laterals and manifolds is also addressed.
