(An essay)
This day, 21st June, marks the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere, which is the day of the year with the maximum hours of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere and the minimum hours of daylight in the Southern Hemisphere.
Our planet gets its energy from the Sun. Most of our activities are associated with the day-light. During the longest day when more sunlight and more energy is available to most of the creatures of the globe- this energy has to be tapped single pointedly to get maximum outcome from every individual. One of the outcomes can be in the form of improved concentration in an individual through the practice of yoga, since yoga induces concentration by bringing harmony between body and mind.
One hundred and seventy five member states have endorsed the draft resolution, which is proposed by India. Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has introduced the proposal in his address during the beginning of the 69th session of the General Assembly (UN General Assembly, 2014).
The United Nations (UN) proclaimed 21st June as the International Day of Yoga by recognizing its universal appeal on 11 December 2014. Thus, UN recognizes: (i) yoga’s holistic approach to human health and well-being and (ii) broad dissemination of information regarding the advantages of practising yoga would be beneficial for having the healthy world population.(UN General Assembly, 2014).

(A literature review)
As the Covid-19 situation demands: Social distancing as a result distance between teacher and student has been increased. Students are required to attend online classes by staying indoors resulting in mental unrest. To combat with this example, students are required to show to creative activities, to release their mental tension. Yoga is one such stress releasing activities, except for its innumerable benefits.
The global Pandemic situation and its affect on students’ performance:
WHO (World Health Organisation) has declared Covid-19 as the Pandemic. By staying indoors and maintaining social distancing, students must attend online classes; there was a less interaction between teacher-student and student-student. Apart from this; staying indoors within the four walls without having exposure to any natural surroundings and citizenry -these unnatural circumstances have result in stress development in students.
Students’ concentration has been affected negatively. Yoga has the proven account of unfolding inner joy. Regular practice of simple yoga techniques makes a person well-equipped with combating capacity to any such situation, like the current Pandemic.
Daily practice of Yogasana (physical exercises with one-pointed concentration), Pranayama (breathing exercise) and meditation for a minimum of half-an-hour is advised by Ministry of AYUSH (2021). Improvement of immunity is one of the greatest assets of practicing breathing exercises. Meditation improves physical and psychological health.
Yoga reduces the age related deterioration in cardiovascular functions (Bharshanker et al., 2003). Functioning of cardiovascular system would be improved, particularly the old age-related problems with the practice of yoga.
The effects of stress on the immune responses end in alterations within the number of immune cells and cytokine dysregulation. Various stress management strategies like meditation, yoga, hypnosis, and muscle relaxation are shown to scale back the psychological and physiological effects of stress in cancers and HIV infection (Arora, 2008). Reducing the stress of modern life style is possible mainly through yoga, since practicing of yoga is possible even at staying indoors.
